Web & Social Media
During the summer of my junior year, I conferenced with my adviser about bringing back "The Daily Pinion", a social media format. Running a daily instagram feed is an immense responsibility on its own. Starting with a brand new staff created more of a challenge. For the first two weeks, I was the only person posting stories on social media, which was stressful. We had to figure out a system to assign other staffers to create posts. Although students were assigned a day to post, I had to reach out to the staff member to confirm if a story and a photo would be posted. When the staff member did not follow through, I had to quickly find a story and photo, usually, at the ending of the school day to post the daily event. We then decided to have stories from the archives as "back ups." In the second quarter, we tried to have the responsible reporters post on the day we don't have class and the staff who needed the support to post on the days we have class. This system worked, but accountability needed to be implemented. Each week, a staff member was assigned to verify each day's posting. During the second and third quarter, we implemented a system where there are three levels of posting. If the reporter did not post that day, the person in charge of that week will post backups. If the person in charge also forgets to confirm the post, then I am the last person to make sure that a story is posted.
The Daily Pinion on instagram hasn't broken the streak!
